William Channing Woodbridge was born in Medford, Massachusetts on December 18, 1794. After graduating from Yale College in 1811, he began his teaching career as a principal in Burlington, New Jersey and then as a teacher in the asylum for the deaf and dumb in Hartford, Connecticut.
